Woodford Reserve releases new Bourbon whiskey with a touch of “chocolate”

‘It’s the season. Whiskey fans around the world are eagerly awaiting the many special releases that are ready to hit the shelves as the holidays approach. A perennial favorite among them is the Master Collection from Woodford Reserve. This annual once gives master distillery Chris Morris the opportunity to play with everything from corn to dish.

Some truly unique liquids have arrived in the bottle over the last few years, including the 2019 Chocolate Malted Rye, which despite its name is actually a bourbon containing 15% of the name grain against its cornflowers. Although the flavor notes from the resulting spirit include cocoa powder, caramel and shortbread biscuits, there are no actual confectionery can be found here. Just a rich and toasted dram that is still in high demand these days.

Fans of the exclusive expression should take note of Woodford’s latest offering, Chocolate Malt Whisper. Although this limited edition bottle is does not part of the aforementioned master collection, it is – in some ways – a sister release to the same 2019 Chocolate Malted Rug.

Tart-roasted malted rye turns out to have a way of putting its mark on the production line. This includes the fermenter and even the silencer. The way we know it is because the chocolate malt whiskey is the sink that was put in the still immediately after the Chocolate Malted Rye run. It still wore some of the same fried chocolate tones in the ensuing race, and Morris was too beaten by the result to ever consider it a mistake.

“Sometimes there are unforeseen developments in the distillery that result in great tastes,” he says. “This is one of those cases.”

File this below “Happy mishap” since the liquid itself is a dessert drama of considerable stature. Citrus peel and melted cocoa powder on the nose are eventually overpowered by dark chocolate and slightly smoky festivities in the back. Just do not understand also in these tastes. Because as part of the budding Distillery series, produced in extremely limited quantities, this is a bottling that you can expect to move quickly as the festive moods approach. Even with a suggested retail price of $ 50-for a half-sized bottle (375 ml).

Along with assistant master distillery Elizabeth McCall, Morris finds even more stores for legend in their Distillery Series. He describes it as a way to push the creative limits of whiskey to the extreme. This is the second of three such entries for the calendar year 2021. And for this particular example, you need to be in Bluegrass State to enjoy it most right away. It is available exclusively at the Woodford Reserve Distillery in Versailles, Kentucky – as well as at select retailers scattered around the state. To check availability, remember: The Internet is your friend. And that’s the essence of chocolate in your bourbon. Then pour.
